Supply Chain Security: Finding a Reliable Midwest Steel Supplier
The best quality raw materials and precision-fabricated steel parts don’t help your production projects if they’re sitting on the back of a truck, on a dock, or waiting in a warehouse. For many production managers, construction supply buyers, supply chain managers, and others who routinely require steel parts, a steel supplier’s geographical location and physical proximity to their destination are among their most critical considerations.
When choosing a Midwest steel supplier to accommodate fluctuating production schedules or a just-in-time (JIT) parts procurement strategy, look for a partner with inventory in multiple locations and a dedicated in-house shipping service. If on-time delivery is essential for your operations, you need a delivery partner to meet your needs and efficiently and consistently overcome logistical challenges.
With Westfield Steel Express, our customers benefit from dealing directly with an in-house, authorized-for-hire, and over-the-road trucking company under the same roof as their trusted steel supplier. There’s no waiting on third-party delivery vendors or outsourced drivers.

There is Strength in Our Numbers
Similar to the story of Westfield Steel, Westfield Steel Express has humble roots that have grown and expanded over the years into a reliably strong foundation for serving valued customers near and far.
A collection of 20 over-the-road tractors, meticulously maintained and kept in top condition across our three locations, are the workhorses of the Westfield Steel Express fleet. Our trailers range in size and style from 25-foot gooseneck to 53-foot spread-axle, and combo to step deck. Westfield Steel Express has two dozen flatbed options for hauling different types of steel products and other goods.
- For shipping Westfield Steel inventory, 48-foot and 53-foot trailers are standard in the trucking industry. The choice of trailer typically depends on factors such as size, volume, and load weight. Larger shipments may require a 53-foot trailer for adequate space and load-bearing capacity. With Conestoga roll-back kits and covered wagon side kits, Westfield Steel Express flatbeds can offer weatherproof protection from the elements and additional security.
- With axles positioned further apart than traditional trailers, spread-axle trailers distribute weight more evenly and are beneficial for hauling heavy loads while complying with weight regulations. We typically use spread-axle trailers for transporting heavy steel products and assembled equipment because they provide better weight distribution and stability, reducing the risk of damage to both the cargo and the trailer.
- Combo trailers combine steel and aluminum in their construction, balancing strength and significant weight savings for more efficient transportation of lighter loads.
- Step deck or drop deck trailers have a lower deck height than standard flatbeds, allowing for the transportation of taller items that don’t fit on traditional trailers. We often use step deck trailers for hauling oversized steel products, large machinery, or other oversized structures that don’t fit within the height restrictions of standard flatbeds.
The Westfield Steel Express fleet includes a pair of class 7 straight trucks and one class 7 box truck. Our straight trucks often take on local deliveries close to our distribution centers, and their smaller size and maneuverability help them navigate deliveries to construction sites or areas where space may be limited. Our enclosed class 7 box truck protects against damage from weather or other environmental factors and often delivers delicate or high-value, precise parts and finished goods. The box truck can handle long-haul shipments with sufficient capacity and fuel efficiency and often makes deliveries to smaller warehouses or retail settings.
