Finding a company that exactly fits your needs can be a triumph.

Just ask Christie Massey, purchasing agent for National Railway Equipment Company (NREC), who found exactly what she was looking for in Westfield Steel.

“The company I work for manufactures locomotives,” Massey said. “There are numerous locations in the U.S., and I do the purchasing for the two located in Mt. Vernon, Ill.”

Massey was first visited by Westfield Steel’s representative, Marie Hulsey, about three and a half years ago, and was immediately impressed by her professional presentation and obvious warmth.

At that time, NREC was only repairing, repainting and refurbishing locomotives.

“Approximately two and a half years ago, we embarked on the actual manufacturing of a ground-breaking locomotive which has tremendously enhanced our business at an international level,” Massey said.

When Massey first sent out a quote to vendors for items we had never before ordered, several of the companies declined to quote because they had no idea what NREC needed.

“Westfield Steel’s inside sales representative, Don Young, dug in and made it his priority to assist us and actually educated me and some members of NREC management, making my job easier,” Massey said.

Since that time, Massey said the services Hulsey and Young provided to NREC are second to none.

“When purchasing, I base my decisions on price, quality of product, and service,” Massey said. “Westfield Steel has consistently been ahead of all the other steel vendors.”

With the ever-rising price of steel, Westfield Steel has been more than competitive in keeping their prices down, according to Massey.

“If and when they make a mistake, which is rare, they correct it at their expense,” Massey said.

Even as recently as the beginning of this year, Massey was required to resend quotes for 2008. Once again, Westfield Steel maintained their first-overall status and won the bid.

“On a personal note, Hulsey and Young, in my opinion, are the reasons Westfield Steel have our business,” Massey said. “In today’s society, service is a fading commodity and competition is stiff. By their words and actions, it seems as though I am their only customer. That’s how thorough and fantastic those two are. They re your greatest assets!”
